SAMI PHILLIPS LONG DISTANCE RUNNER QLD, AUSTRALIA INSTAGRAM: @samiphillips_ I have always had a passion for running and athletics, in particular the longer distances events, I may not have always been the ‘best’, but my love for the sport has always been there. My journey really began back when my parents took me along to little athletics for the first time (when i was about 7 years old), initially it was for the fun, fitness, and friendship benefits. However, there was one race when I was around grade 3, I was running in an 800m race at school carnival, I ended up winning the race (by a reasonable margin). It was this point when my parents thought, ‘Hey Sami might have some talent here”, so they encouraged me to continue to participate in athletics and other running events. I have always strived for improvement and placed a focus on enjoying every session and the journey that running takes you on. I am a huge believer in fuelling your body correctly with quality nutrition to allow my body to meet the demands and stress's placed on it from long distance running and for optimum performance in every session. Karen has been involved in endurance sport as a triathlete for more than 20 years and as an Age Group Champion Triathlete. She is also an Accredited Level 2 Triathlon Performance Coach, Bronze Level Swim Coach, and has Certificates III and IV in Fitness Queensland. Karen has gained a mass of experience through training, racing, and coaching, and has trained under several notable and experienced triathlon and running coaches.  She understands the pressures of ‘life’, work / life balance and time management, as well as good nutrition for daily, training and racing needs.    Karen is Head Coach Redline Tri Club, Wellington Point, South Brisbane, which she has successfully managed for the previous three years. She has coached many athletes to podium finishes and for world championship races from Sprint, Duathlon, Aquathon, Olympic/Standard, 70.3 and Ironman distance. She is now fuelled by Temple Nutrition and is about to ride her bike from Alice Springs to Darwin over 8 days , 1500km, in June to raise funds for the Mater Foundation for Cancer Research.

Ryan is a 36 year old with a passion for everything running; from parkrun to ultramarathons. he has just completed the Kakoda Trail and his 2nd Ultraman Australia event! 

It's not always about winning, fast times and getting a PB. It's also about just being active, enjoying what you do and simply having fun. Recently he completed in the Blackmores Sydney Marathon dressed as Where's Wally.

Ben Southall is a presenter, digital journalist and ultra adventure athlete. His achievements include beating 35,000 to win 'Best Job in the World' in 2009 and became the 'Caretaker of the Islands of the Great Barrier Reef' in Australia.

He climbed five of Africa's highest mountains and ran 5 marathons during his circumnavigation of the continent in 2008. In 2011 he kayaked 1600 km along the Great Barrier Reef retracing the Captain Cook's ' Voyage of Discovery with the 'Best Expedition in the World'

I started out playing a range of different sports. Golf, Football, Cricket, Running and Cycling. A few injuries and a family later I decided to give running, ultra running, triathlons a go instead. My next challenge is the Big Red Run 250km multi day endurance race in June before focusing my training on UTA 100km and the Bussleton Ironman next year.

My journey to always strive for improvement and passion for the sport is still as strong as ever. I began competing some time in high school and despite not winning any major championships at the time, I enjoyed the challenges the sport provided. In 2017 I'll be challenging myself with the task of running 5 Ultras in 5 months, where I'll be raising funds and awareness for The Black Dog Institute who aim to help those suffering from anxiety and depression along with this I'll also be raising awareness for autism where I'm working alongside Autism Spectrum Australia.
