GEMMA MAINI CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER VIC, AUSTRALIA INSTAGRAM: @g_maini I have loved running for as long as I can remember, the time spent outdoors, exploring, socialising or a time spent simply by myself, a time of reflection, daydreaming, making decisions, clearing my mind or singing. I began competing some time in high school and despite not winning any major championships at the time, I enjoyed the challenges the sport provided. My journey to always strive for improvement and passion for the sport is still as strong as ever. Over the years running has taken me on many adventures, providing a scholarship at Idaho State University, where I competed for 5 years, and more recently on many interstate and overseas trips. The highlight of my running career to date has been the honour of wearing the green and gold, when I competed in China at the World Cross Country Championships in 2015, and I would love the opportunity to represent Australia again in the future. Other highlights would be placing 2nd at the Australian Cross Country Championships in 2016 and breaking 16 minutes for the first time in the 5000m on the track. Running is full of ups and downs but I have learnt that consistency and patience are vital, ticking off each session, one day at a time. Fuelling your body adequately is equally important to ensure you are performing to the best of your ability and to allow your body to recover properly. I love that Temple Nutrition assist in both of these pursuits without the added sugars and preservatives like many other products.
